Fill up my cup

While we were having dinner yesterday Abby finished her drink, slammed the cup on the table and yelled, "Empty!".

I gave her the kind of look that only parents know how to give and she quickly said, "Please can I have another drink Daddy?".

Our heavenly father is more than willing to give to those who ask of him, and keep giving until our cup overflows.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff - they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

What's it all about...Archie?

If there's one thing I have become convinced of over the last twenty years it is this; lots of Christians find it hard to fully accept God's love.

I was delighted when this very topic was addressed at church on Sunday morning. The speaker, Archie Coates, delivered the message in a way that was so beautifully articulate that I shall say no more, and simply point you to the place where you can listen to it yourself.

You are loved - Archie Coates

Wise words

I was flicking through a children's furniture catalogue the other day when I came across this quote from Abraham Lincoln:

"I will study and get ready, and perhaps my chance will come"

I'm pretty sure almost every American student must have heard this several times, but for me it is a first. I very much like the idea of being ready, being prepared. Even though the opportunity to make use of our readiness may never come, the important thing is to be ready ahead of time. Quite a revelation for a chap who, although very much a planner, tends to leave things to the last minute.

We never know when we will get the opportunity to proclaim the love of God, and tell the story of Jesus. Through study and relationship we can be ready. Just in case!

proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favourable or unfavourable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2
